My 1973 Mazda 808 Coupe

PostFri Feb 24, 2012 3:55 pm

This is my My 1973 Mazda 808 Coupe - like a Rx-3 but with a piston engine instead. In this case a 1.6L SOHC motor with a 4spd gearbox.

Diggin' the slotmags and the oh-so-70s stripe scheme. I'm pretty sure I saw this exact car somewhere in the background of every single re-run of "ChiPS" back in the day.

You should post up the story about how you found this, and what you've done to it! Amazing.

"Bah, a piston engine? What are you, some kind of WUSS?!" —every vintage Mazda owner at every meet ever, presumably, when they encounter this thing

Is that a Miata guy making fun of my piston engine? :D

I've owned a couple of FB Rx-7s - I love the rotary engine just not sure I want to own another one.

Not too much to the story of how I got the car. Saw it around town a couple times. It was advertised for sale but too much money. Price came down and I bought it. Needs a little love here and there but the interior is mint. Drove it some last summer and hope to rack some more miles on it this summer. Eventually it is going to need some new paint but I don't want to lose the groovy stripes.

Sold this beauty off. A local Mazda dealer is doing a light resto on it.
