What are you listening to right now?

PostSat Jul 07, 2012 1:58 pm

As we all know, the internet is powered by random songs from the Tube of You playing in the background. It is known. So what's powering your internet today?

Mine is powered by this awesome dude playing a Tele.

99% of my internet radio time is spent listening to WMBR, the MIT radio station. I'm in S.F., but MBR is still my favorite. (Right now, Joe Jackson 'On The Radio')
http://track-blaster.com/wmbr/

Top shows are Late Riser's Club, Gorilla Got Me, Troubadour, Generoso's Bovine Ska. and Lost Highway.

The remaining 1% is just listening to Wait Wait Don't Tell Me since I'm working Saturdays.

My last YerTubes excursion was to check out a band I heard on WMBR, Pins Of Light, who are local to the S.F. Bay Area. In fact, I'll be seeing them on Friday the 13th!

Well right now I'm listening to The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan - and if I'm honest, while I can enjoy Dylan I sometimes think he's great at tricking people into thinking he's saying something deep and meaningful when he's actually saying nothing at all - but I actually am going to post the soundtrack for the drive home tonight. Cars!

The drive home had a pretty great soundtrack.

Download link near the top of the page.

From when I saw them at the Tabernacle:

The music of Explosions In The Sky moves at a glacial pace. I have no difficulty believing those sounds could cut mountains. When they took the stage, the noise of the crowd was immense; it was clear who we were there to see. Then they played their opener, and the noise of the crowd was pitiful. It was as if they wanted to silence the audience by simply and utterly overpowering us. I hoped they would succeed. They played loud enough to silence my mind; it sounded like the endless void of space. And then in the emptiness, something incredibly pure and bright would appear. Nothing existed outside the sound. For all the complexity of their technique, the melodies were very simple, slowly evolving with minor variations. They laid open the very core of what I love about music and raked it into a zen garden. I had tears in my eyes and was pretty much overloaded by the middle of the set. And it only got more intense, and more beautiful. At the end, impossibly, they played louder, then louder again, and again, until that tension seemed to be the force holding the universe together. When the distortion receded, I stumbled out of the looking glass in a daze.

So... this one is probably NSFW because of drug use and fire boobs:

Just the album art on this one though:

And then some Clutch, whom I believe to be a very hoon friendly band:

When it comes to music, beer or cars I could go on for a long time.

Cool, some awesome stuff posted here. 8-)

Musical ADHD this morning so i keep skipping between classic rock, 90's dance, indie rock, pop, eurobeat and country. Here's some proper Finnish rock to get the day started. I'll just have some coffee though, i've got a huge pile of lumber to chop into firewood and a leaking Ford that needs fixing.

And here's one just for Greg and Jeff

Right now I am 42 minutes through this epic.

Ignore the first 8 minutes if you even try to listen to this.

Sweet! I picked up Murder the Mountains about a month ago. It's excellent.

(And because I'm a dork, I had to check, and alas, allthatisheavy.com does not seem to have anything this is Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing...)

This is the only band i've just seen live by pure accident and thought "Damn, i've never heard of these guys but i'll buy every record they've made!". This was in 2004. Heavy-ish rock with at times sort of surfy(clean, at least) sounding guitar with mostly melancholy lyrics. We Finns are probably unbeatable at beautiful melancholy, and we would be proud of that but we realise it's pointless and silently drown our sorrows in booze.

I have no idea how well known Volbeat is across the pond, but around Europe it gained popularity quite rapidly in 2007-2008. And both of these songs also have pretty obvious references to cars.
