Anybody else here ride?

PostMon Feb 27, 2012 12:22 pm

I'm looking to get back into motorcycles, and somehow, this example seems like a steal. I'm thinking of picking this up in a week or two. For around $2500, is this 2004 SV650 too good to be true, or too good to be true?

I do, and have at least a couple of friends who swear by the SV. I'd say at that price, especially if it's in the condition described, snatch it up before someone else does. They're truly a jack-of-all-trades type bike - excellent commuter, track bike, or light-duty tourer.

I do! I really like classic motorcycles, I bought a 1982 Honda CM 250 C last June and absolutely love it. Can't wait to get out on the road once all this snow clears up...

First bike purchased after I took the MSF. 1997 Kawasaki EX500. Just clicked over to 20K miles.

Quite a few of us ride. Check out the Meet Your Hoons thread.

And I love the SV650. I ride a GS500. If I ever decide to move to something larger, this is high on my list of possibles.

I do actually mountain bike and I do have that model of bike. That's just not my bike. I needed to make the disclaimer because that is a 1x9 set-up and I wasn't about to sit here and justify that ridiculousness on a car forum. haha.

Although recently, I have slicks on it and am using it for Daddy duty.

They have helmets, but helmets don't always lend themselves to good pictures.

The SV-650 is a good choice for a starter bike as well. That is if you have the inseam for it. It's a very tall bike. It's on the big side engine wise for a starter but really its in a sweet spot. That bike will be good for a beginner but has so much capability it will be a long term before you outgrow it.

The other suggestion of the GS500 was a good one. I had a 93 GS500E and I could do stupid things on that bike. As a new rider you stay low in the power band. As you improve you learn to use more of what the bike has. The GS500E (and fully clad F) both have 9,000 rev limits for you to explore. Same goes for the Ninja 500 which is a bike that it will take you a long time to outgrow

Shame that bike sold. I ride an '02 SV, also yellow, and it is a phenomenal bike. Tame enough to learn on, big enough to ride pretty much forever.

I have my motorcycle license, and I ride whenever I can get my hands on a bike (usually at some manufacturer's test ride event). I'm hoping to get a bike within the next year or so to get enough real world experience to get the final stage in our graduated licensing. I'll probably just end up with a Honda CBR125R, just for the really cheap insurance (and because there's enough of them on the market because the previous owner got bored).
